What do the error messages in my 'Fix Import' file mean?

Have you imported data but some records failed? Not to worry.

A 'Fix Import' file is available to download, containing all the remaining records that failed to import & includes the reason an error occurred for each one.

Above is an example of a contacts import that partly failed.
'8/8' means that 8 out of 8 records have been processed.
'7 failed' means that 7 out of those 8 contacts that were processed have failed to import.

The 'Fix Import' file is to the right. In the example above, it contains those 7 remaining contacts that failed to import. Inside the file, a new column called 'error' has been inserted to list the error that caused each specific row of data to fail.

Sometimes the error language can be a bit tricky, so we did some translating for you.

Here is a list of common errors, their translations and how to fix it.

Error:
" "value" must be an array, child "size" fails because ["size" must be a number] "

Translation:
Size is the column name and the data must be numerical. If your data isn't a number in the columns that give this error, then that account or contact will fail to import. Note that it should be a single numeric value. Intervals and the like are not allowed either.

How to fix it:
In the 'Size' column of your 'Fix Import' file, remove any text data in that column and replace with numerical data.

Error:
child "account" fails because ["account" is required]

Translation:
The error means you are importing opportunities, which requires specifying an account, but you have not matched anything in the dropdown menu to the column "Account name".

How to fix it:
If you are importing opportunities, make sure to include a column of account names. Match this column to 'Account Name' in the dropdown menu.

Error:
"The account does not exist"

Translation:
When importing contacts or opportunities, the record failed because the account that is listed for that row does not exist in Salesflare yet.

How to fix it:
First create an account with the corresponding name and then re-import the 'Fix Import' file.

Error:
"The stage does not exist"

Translation:
When importing opportunities, the stage name you've listed under 'Stage name' in your file does not match any stage name in your pipelines.

How to fix it:
First create a stage with the corresponding name and then re-import your 'Fix Import' file.

Error:
"The pipeline/stage combination does not exist"

Translation:
When importing opportunities, you have specified a stage in the 'Stage name' column that doesn't exist in the pipeline you listed in the 'Pipeline name' column.

How to fix it:
Make sure the stage you are trying to import your opportunity matches a stage that exists in the pipeline you are trying to import to.

Go to Settings > Configure pipelines to add/delete/edit stages and pipelines.

Error:
"Please set a close date in the future"

Translation:
For opportunities with a probability that is between 0% and 100% (so you estimate you can win it but haven't yet), the close date of the opportunity must be a date in the future, since it represents the date you expect to close the deal.

How to fix it:
Change the close date to something in the future then re-import your 'Fix Import' file.

Error:
"The close date is required in this stage"

Translation:
This error happens when you didn't specify a close date for the opportunity and the stage probability is higher than 0 in the opportunity's stage. It therefore requires a close date to be counted correctly in the revenue forecasts on the Insights page.

How to fix it:
Include a column with the expected close date for this opportunity, then re-import your 'Fix Import' file.

Error:
single value of "value" fails because [child "email" fails because ["email" must be a valid email]]

Translation:
Under the 'Email' column, there must be a valid email (and only one).

How to fix it:
Make sure the email address included in this column is a valid email address.
You can only import one email per contact. A workaround is to create a second contact for that person with the second email address. Then add the two contacts to the same account so all interactions with this contact are still pulled into one timeline.

Error:
"value" must be an array, "value" must contain at least one of [name, domain, website]

Translation:
To import accounts, you must include at least one of the following for each account: name, domain or website.

How to fix it:
Make sure to include a name, domain or website of an account, then re-import your 'Fix Import' file.
